Chilli paneer, the Indo-Chinese dish is a fusion of Chinese cooking techniques in Indian way. The paneer coated with flour and spices are deep-fried or baked and then added to stir fried veggies in sauce to obtain a distinctive flavor. Though the chilli paneer originally derived from chilli chicken, it is perfect for all vegetarians and exquisite. Chilli paneer can be served as a starter or as a side dish with fried rice.

Chilli paneer

INGREDIENTS

  • Paneer – 200 grams
  • Onion – 1/2 cup
  • Coloured capsicum – 1/2 cup
  • Green chillis – 4
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Ginger – 1/2 inch
  • Ginger & garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Spring onion
  • Corn flour – 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp
  • All purpose flour – 2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Soy sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Green chilli sauce – 1 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup – 1 tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil

PREPARATION

Step 1: In a small bowl, add all-purpose flour, corn flour, ginger & garlic paste, red chilli powder and pepper powder. Mix and add to the paneer cubes. Add salt, oil, water and give a quick stir.

 

Step 2: Preheat oven to 450°F(230°C), align the paneer cubes in a baking tray and bake for 10 mins or until done, you can also deep fry instead of baking.

 

Step 3: Heat oil in a pan, add garlic, ginger, green chilli and saute for 30 sec. Add onion, capsicum and saute for a minute. Combine all the sauce, sugar in a small bowl and add to the veggies and saute.

 

Step 4: Dissolve 1 tbsp cornflour in 3 tbsp of water and add to the mix. Saute until thickens to sauce consistency. Then add the baked paneer and mix well. Garnish with spring onions.

NOTES

  1. You can either bake or deep-fry.
  2. Adding ginger & garlic paste to paneer is optional.
  3. Dissolve the corn flour in water without any lumps.
