This is one of the basic goat curry recipe which is simple, flavourful with all the spices blended and perfect for any beginner. The meat is pressure cooked in the ground paste of roasted spices along with onions and tomatoes which turns out to be a succulent, lip-smacking dish. This recipe was just an experiment with different spices for a variation. You can serve with rotis/ naan/ Phulkas and rice.
- Goat/ Lamb – 500 gms
- Onion – 1 big
- Tomato – 1 big
- Ginger& garlic paste – 2 tbsp
- Red chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Red chilli – 1
- Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Peppercorns – 1 tsp
- Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
- Coconut – 2-3 tbsp
- Bay leaf – 1
- Cardamom – 2
- Cinnamon stick – 1
- Cloves – 4
- Curry leaves
- Coriander leaves
Step 1: Dry roast cumin, coriander, fennel, poppy seeds, peppercorns, cardamom(1) and cloves(3). Grind the dry roasted mix with coconut and little water.
Step 2: Heat oil in a cooker, add bay leaf, red chilli, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, onions and saute until translucent. Then add ginger& garlic paste and saute for a minute.
Step 3: Add tomatoes and cook until mushy, then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder,salt and saute for a minute. Then add goat and cook for 4-5 mins.
Step 4: Add the ground paste, 1 cup of water and stir well. Pressure cook for 6-8 whistles. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
- Adjust spice according to your taste.
- In case of lamb, pressure cook for 5-6 whistles.
