Masal vadai is one of the famous snacks/ street food in South India. As the name suggest, it is a blend of lentils, spices and veggies. Masal vadai’s are crispy outside and soft inside.
Channa dal – 1 cup
Onion – 1
Dry red chilli – 1
Green chilli – 1
Garlic – 3 cloves
Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
Salt to taste
STEP 1: Soak channa dal 3-4 hrs and grind with red chilli coarsely without adding water.
STEP 2: Grind fennel seeds, green chilli and garlic with little water and add to the mix.
STEP 3: Add mint, curry leaves, coriander leaves, onions, salt and mix everything.
STEP 4: Heat oil in a pan for deep-frying, take a lemon size mix and gently flatten it with your hands and slowly drop in the oil. Flip to the other side and fry until vadas are golden brown.
- If the mix is watery, add rice flour to thicken it.
- You can add chopped spinach, banana flower and other veggies to the mix to make it a healthy option for kids.
- Adding garlic and fennel seeds will enhance the flavor.
- Grind channa dal coarsely, not to smooth paste.
